There have been a lot of memorable moments on Saturday Night Live Season 50, many of them planned… and a few that were unplanned. Just a month ago on the 2025 TV schedule, audiences members screamed an obscenity during a Weekend Update segment, and that followed a week after Morgan Wallen abruptly walking off stage during the closing credits. Well, Wallen has finally explained his reasoning for the early onscreen exit, and he threw in another cheeky comment in the process.
The country music star opened up about this topic while he was speaking with Caleb Pressley on Sundae Conversation. This happened when Pressley asked Wallen if he could fix a TV if “it was on SNL” after learning the musician was handy around the house, and Wallen smiled and answered that he could “change it for sure.” Pressley followed up by asking if SNL made Wallen “mad,” prompting this response:
No, no. I was just ready to go home. I’d been there all week.
Seems simple enough, right? Well then Caleb Pressley brought up how shortly after he left the SNL stage, Morgan Wallen posted on his Instagram Stories where he wrote “Get me to God’s country” to accompany a picture of what looked like the inside of a private jet on a runway. Wallen simply smiled again and said, “Yeah” to this. It definitely came off as cheeky and was perhaps even giving off shade vibes.
Morgan Wallen was the musical guest on the SNL episode hosted by Anora’s Mikey Madison, and he performed the songs "I'm the Problem" and "Just in Case.” However, once the credits started rolling, he just left the stage while everyone else was mingling and interacting. It didn’t take long for social media to start buzzing about this moment, to the point that sources from Wallen’s team said this was a simple faux pas and that he didn’t realize he’d be on camera when leaving.
After Wallen’s exit and the accompanying Instagram post, Saturday Night Live writer Josh Patten joked about the incident by sharing a picture of a Krispy Kreme truck with the “Get me to God’s country” caption. Cast member Kenna Thompson then speculated that Wallen “didn’t understand the assignment,” meaning that it’s common courtesy to stay on the stage until the program is over. The walk-off went so viral that the singer started selling merchandise stamped with “Get me to God’s country,” and it was also reported that Wallen turned down the opportunity to appear in a sketch.
Morgan Wallen may not have been “mad” at SNL, but it’s clear he was definitely eager to get out of 30 Rock as soon as possible. Perhaps he’ll elaborate further about his thought process on this sometime in the future. For now, SNL Season 50 concludes next week with host Scarlett Johansson and musical guest Bad Bunny.
